The Medical Scribe Specialist certificate program at Springfield College helps you develop the essential knowledge and skills related to general standards and guidelines to perform and document all physician and patient interactions from the start of treatment until it ends. The program also discusses in detail the responsibility of a medical scribe of transcribing all written information of a patient to the database to help physician focus mainly on patient treatment and to deliver the efficient patient care in various healthcare practices such as hospitals, healthcare centers, medical offices and nursing facilities.

The program provides students fundamental understanding and skills required of a scribe who collects and updates each patient’s management plan while they are under their doctors’ care. Students will learn how to help improve quality, accuracy and speed in delivery of healthcare services by handling data management tasks for physicians in real-time, free the physician to increase patient contact time, give more thought to complex cases, better manage patient flow through the department, and increase productivity to see more patients and regulatory mandates applying confidentiality, legal aspects and professional skills. Medical scribes are growing in popularity, chiefly because patient electronic health record systems (EHR/EMR) have become the new industry standard, which continually change with new regulations and health reforms in Canadian Healthcare. Hence, this program also helps the learner to comprehend the evolving concepts of medical scribing in the modern era.
